Help us shape a sustainable urban future for Northeast India
We believe that building sustainable and resilient cities is not just about infrastructure, but about shaping communities where people, health, and the environment thrive together. To guide our work, we align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on specific targets that reflect our mission and values. Our current efforts are rooted in three critical goals. Within these, we emphasize specific targets where our work can make the greatest impact
SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being (Target 3.6)
Target 3.6 sets an ambitious objective: "By 2030, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents."
Urban transport is not just about movement; it is about life and safety. Road traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of mortality and injury worldwide, and India is no exception. Our work on road safety awareness, safer cycling infrastructure, and community engagement for pedestrian-friendly streets directly supports this target. By promoting safer non-motorized transport environments and encouraging responsible commuting behavior, we contribute to reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring healthier, safer cities.
SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities (Target 11.2)
Target 11.2 aims to "provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons, by 2030."
At PURVCA Foundation, this goal lies at the very heart of our work. We are committed to reimagining urban mobility so that walking, cycling, and public transport are not just alternatives but the preferred modes of travel. Our initiatives in active mobility promotion, public transport demand studies, and safer urban streets contribute to ensuring that mobility is not a privilege but a right accessible to all. By engaging with citizens, local authorities, and institutions, we aim to build transport systems that are inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.
SDG 13 – Climate Action (Targets 13.2 and 13.3)
Target 13.2: Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies, and planning.
Target 13.3: Improve education, awareness-raising, and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning.
The transport sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. At PURVCA Foundation, we firmly believe that addressing climate change requires rethinking urban mobility. Our work is geared towards mainstreaming low-carbon transport solutions—from advocating for cycling and walking infrastructure to strengthening public transport systems. Equally important, we invest in awareness-building and capacity development, empowering communities, institutions, and individuals to understand the climate impact of mobility choices and take action.
Through workshops, campaigns, and collaborative projects, we aim to nurture climate-conscious citizens and integrate sustainability into everyday urban living. Our approach is both practical and educational: not only do we propose climate-smart solutions, but we also ensure that people have the knowledge and motivation to adopt them.
In essence, our work at Purvca Foundation is not scattered across many goals but sharply focused on where we can create the most meaningful impact — making cities safer, healthier, and more climate-resilient. Through our interventions, we seek to connect the dots between mobility, health, and climate action, ensuring that our cities in North Eastern India and beyond evolve into spaces where people and the planet coexist sustainably.
By focusing on these specific SDG targets—safe, sustainable mobility (SDG 11.2), reducing road traffic injuries (SDG 3.6), and embedding climate action into policy and public consciousness (SDG 13.2 & 13.3)—PURVCA Foundation positions itself at the intersection of mobility, health, safety, and climate resilience.
Our work may be localized in North Eastern India, but the impact we seek is global in its relevance: healthier citizens, safer streets, and cities that actively respond to the challenges of climate change.
